Canberra With Kids: Canberra Visitor Centre

Interactive maps help visitors understand Canberra

If you're planning a trip to Canberra, one of the first places you should visit is the Canberra Visitor Centre. Located in the heart of the city and right beside Lake Burley Griffin, this centre is the ideal starting point for any visitor to the city.

The Canberra Visitor Centre is a one-stop-shop for everything you need to know about the city. The knowledgeable staff are very friendly and they're available to answer any questions you may have about Canberra, including the best places to visit, eat, and stay. They can also provide you with maps, brochures, and other tourist information to help you plan your trip. The centre is open seven days a week, from 9 am to 5 pm, so you can drop in at any time.

One of the main attractions of the Canberra Visitor Centre is the impressive display of information and interactive exhibits about the city. The exhibits are designed to be engaging and interactive, making them ideal for both adults and children. Our girls found them really informative and engaging. You can learn about the history of the city, including its origins as a planned capital, and the stories of the people who have lived here over the years.

In addition to the displays, the Canberra Visitor Centre has a range of audio-visual presentations that provide an immersive experience of the city. You can watch short films that showcase the attractions of Canberra, from the museums and galleries to the outdoor adventures on offer. These presentations are a great way to get a taste of what the city has to offer and can help you plan your itinerary.

Another great feature of the Canberra Visitor Centre is its gift shop. The shop stocks a range of souvenirs and gifts that are unique to the city. You can pick up a memento of your trip, such as a Canberra-themed t-shirt, hat, or mug, or choose from a range of locally made products such as jams, honey, and chocolates. We picked up most of our souvenirs for friends and family here, because the selection was just so good.

Make the Canberra Visitor Centre one of the first stops of your visit to Canberra. Leave plenty of time to explore it. You won't be disappointed!
